The importance of bathroom medical equipment.

Bathrooms can be a dangerous location for anyone, startling amounts of people are injured each year due to bathroom slips/falls. Unfortunately, this risk rises for aging population or persons with a disability. Studies show that up to 80% of in-home falls take place in the bathroom. Many of these falls take place in the shower, but a considerable amount of them take place when using the toilet. The low height placement of most toilet seats can make it difficult to maintain strength or balance while lowering to or raising from a toilet. Luckily there are a few toilet-area modifications that can be made in your home!


Most commonly used bathroom equipment would include but is not limited to the following; toilet safety rails toilet seat risers, grip bars, and commodes. A Brief description of each type of assistive toilet equipment follows:

Toilet Safety Rails

Toilet safety rails provide the user with something to grab onto, and to use for stability while lowering or rising from the toilet seat. Toilet seat rails usually fit into two categories; stand-alone frames that are separate from the toilet, and attached frames that can fasten to your toilet. Both types of toilet safety rails feature adjustable frames to ensure a comfortable and safe fit.

Toilet Seat Risers

Toilet seat risers’ function by decreasing the distance you needs to lower to reach the toilet. Toilet Seat Risers come in many different styles, they can be ordered with or without handles to assist in lowering/rising from seat. Toilet Risers tend to be hard-plastic.

Grab Bars

Grab Bars are dependent on your bathroom setup but can be a cheap option if your bathroom set-up allows. If there is a location that works for a grip bar near your toilet, they can help assist in rising or lowering from a toilet seat surface. If you have questions
