Shower Aid Medical Equipment

Showering is perhaps the most important part of our bodily cleaning routine. Showering can make us feel refreshed and energized,But they can also make some of us feel nervous or unsteady. The large majority of bathroom injuries have to do with slipping and falling while entering, using, or leaving the shower. Risks are known be even higher for an aging or disabled population. Reasons to seek shower equipment can include expending too much energy getting in or out of shower, general balance issues, losing balance while closing eyes and standing, needing assistance transferring into/out of shower, etc.

While showering can become a potential danger to some individuals, the use of shower aid equipment can allow for an easier shower experience. Potential shower aid equipment includes shower stools/chairs, shower wheelchairs, grip bars, and transfer benches. A brief description of each follows:

Shower Stool/ Chair

The stool or chair will both provide seated support for an individual. A stool will take up less space but will also be less stable than a shower chair. Shower chairs provide great stability and can come with back support and handles if desired, as well as a commode opening if necessary.

Handheld Sprayer

Handheld sprayers allow user to effectively bathing while sitting on a shower stool/chair or a transfer bench.

Tub Grab Bar

A tub grab bar is an easy install option that attaches directly to the out side of the tub an is adjustable where it can go on the tub as well as in height for added comfort and stability.

Grab Bar

Place bar wherever necessary, hold on for balance support.

Transfer Bench

Allows user to safely enter or exit a shower enclosure, particularly a bath tub, by eliminating the need for the individual to step over the bath tub edge. If user has advanced mobility a standard transfer bench will suffice, sliding transfer benches allow transfer with less independent mobility.

Use of shower-aid equipment can increase the safety of showering, as well as the confidence of the user to complete a shower. Does any shower aid equipment seem fit for you or a loved one?
